We returned to the place we spent night 1, and it was lovely as ever. Except for the rain. We got very wet. My camera did not make an appearance. There were also a few too many mosquitoes. When I say 'a few', I really mean quite a lot. That will be all.
P.S. I had fun anyways!!! Guess who went exploring! That's right, me and Alex did. We decided to check out a head out Sambro way. It was spectacular!! Well, we only discovered that come morning, since we arrived after dark. According to aerial imagery, it looked like there were two potential routes to the coast, so we drove down both, but the terrain at the end of the first looked best, so we chose that route. We bushwacked for a bit, though there was a bit of a game trail, so it was easier going, then ended up at the coast. The coast there is a great outcrop of the SMB (South Mountain Batholith), which is bouldery in some areas, and then others it's just nice flat expanses. We scrambled around for a bit, and ended up at the open area we could see in the imagery. It was very shrubby, with junipers and other lovely and fragrant things. It smells amazing. I actually just spent a minute or two with my nose to the ground, enjoying the mix of juniper, pine, and organic soil. After I was done with that, we found a relatively flat place to set up the tent (this proved slightly difficult, as the ground is rather hummocky) but eventually we succeeded!
The Sambro lighthouse is just off the coast, and there are some whistle buoys to lull us to sleep. The next morning, we awoke to the sound of birds and waves and fog (which generally is not too noisy). As soon as we had a chance to look around in the daylight, we decided we're going to go back there. I think this might become one of our go-to spots, it's pretty wonderful! It is so warm! This trip was super quick and dirty, we arrived late, set up quickly, slept for a bit, then packed up and left early, and to top it off I forgot to take any pictures. Sorry guys!
It's been more than a week since I last went camping. That feels like so long now! I've barely started this challenge, and I can already tell it's going to be addicting. Nothing is better than getting outside... Anyways, back to night number 5!
We headed back to the place we spent the first night, though we did find a different rock to set up camp on! Alex was able to drive right up onto the rock, so we had to have a quick photo-shoot of the car in the wild before we could get around to setting up camp. This time, we ate before leaving, which I can see us doing fairly often in the future... It's almost too easy! We ate, packed up sleeping bags, pads, a tent, and some snacks and water, and then just left! We both worked today, so it was an early morning... That was less lovely, but hey, the sunrise was nice! |
